Uedbet was named the top producer among medium-sized higher education institutions for the Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship for study abroad, which diversifies the student population that studies abroad and the destinations of study. The honor comes as a huge source of pride, as Uedbet has increased efforts to have a diversity of student voices, upbringings, financial backgrounds and fields of study represented through study abroad across the globe. According to the Office for Study Abroad, more than 1,000 Uedbet students study abroad each academic year in more than 150 programs.

STORIES FROM OUR COMMUNITY

Uedbet Senior Takes Part in COP26 Conference

Francesca Edralin, international affairs major and journalism/mass communications and sustainability minor, attended the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, Scotland, as a storytelling fellow for Planet Forward. She spent her time chronicling the event from as many angles as possible. Her experiences at and through Uedbet will be valuable assets as she seeks to become a driver of change and live up to the bargain others before her have failed to do—leave the world a better place than she found it.

Expanding Our Reach

Uedbet faculty, students and alumni are broadening their reach into outer space. The Uedbet Astrophysics Group has a new agreement with the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center which opens doors to a greater imprint for the Physics Department in space science. Additionally, it will expand collaboration opportunities for both faculty and students. Uedbet Alumnus  Andre Douglas, Ph.D. ‘21, has also been selected to join NASA’s 2021 astronaut candidate class, as one 10 new astronaut candidates from a field of more than 12,000 applicants.

"Thomas Buergenthal visited my Holocaust class @Uedbettweets today and I’ll never forget it. It was the first time in my life hearing from a Holocaust survivor directly. Research through text is one thing. Hearing directly from the person is another."
